What are BMW E-Codes?

You will not find these numbers on your car, but E-Codes are widely used to identify BMW automobiles. E-codes were developed by BMW internally, and are so useful BMW enthusiasts discovered them and began referring to their cars using these E-Codes. They only change to signify a major redesign of a series, or the introduction of a new series.

The "E" stands for "Entwicklung", the German word for development. Every subsequent BMW model has been given a numerically higher designation at the beginning of its development program including all the prototypes and concepts, hence the gaps in the numbering sequence, the missing numbers indicate the projects that never made it to production.

Tentando colaborar o que já existe, inclusive o Manual Bentley fala sobre isso, se não me engano;
E-Codes são amplamente utilizados para identificar os automóveis BMW. E-códigos foram desenvolvidos pela BMW internamente, e são tão úteis, BMW descobriu e começou a se referir a seus carros usando estes E-Codes. Eles só muda para significar uma grande reformulação de uma série, ou a introdução de uma nova série.
O "E" significa "Entwicklung", a palavra alemã para o desenvolvimento. Cada modelo BMW posterior tenha sido dada uma designação numericamente mais elevada no início de seu programa de desenvolvimento, incluindo todos os protótipos e conceitos, portanto, as lacunas na seqüência de numeração, os números em falta indicam os projetos que nunca chegaram à produção.

A mais simples possível, acabaram os codigos E:

"The E in the E-code stands for Entwicklung, which means evolution or development in German. Motor Trend reports that BMW will be dropping the E-code and using a new F-code as the E-code is already nearing it’s limits in terms of numbers since it’s reached 90 already with the latest 3-series. The 2009 BMW 7-series will be called the F01 and the L long wheelbase version (750iL?) will be called the F02. The next 5-series will be known as the F10. Note that facelifts do not entitle a new chassis code as it is essentially the same platform with a facelift."

LCI é a atualização do modelo após um tempo de produção,  para dar uma sobre vida ao produto. Significa Life Cycle Impulse.
MUE é o lci em alemão: "Modellüberarbeitung"
